XenCenter in a browser

XenCenter’s everyday operations on a web page: open a VM’s console, change its settings, create VMs, patch hosts, with the pools’ health beside them, from any browser and through one sign-in.

The direct answer. DTR Vantage connects to each pool’s coordinator over XenAPI, the same interface XenCenter uses, with a per-pool account it stores encrypted and a certificate it pins before sending that account. In the browser you get the pool tree, each VM’s console, power and snapshot actions, VM properties (vCPUs, memory, disks, network cards), New VM from a template, new storage repositories, VLAN networks, host updates with evacuation and reboots, licensing and alerts. Data-destroying actions and host power are for administrators only, and every change is recorded with who made it and the pool’s answer. Other browser-based XenServer tools exist; Vantage’s difference is the pools’ health, NetScaler and Windows in the same place, with one sign-in and one audit log.

Questions

Can I manage XenServer without XenCenter?

For the everyday operations, yes: the console, power, snapshots, VM settings, new VMs, storage, networks, updates and licensing are all in DTR Vantage's web page.

Does it install anything on the hosts?

No. It uses XenAPI on each pool's coordinator with an account you give it.

Can I reach it from outside the network?

Yes, through the optional cloud console, which carries the VM console as well.

Is the pool password stored?

The per-pool API account is stored encrypted with a key local to the server, and never returned by any read.
